Title in french : Espace 361 - expos, ateliers, temps forts
Type : contemporary
City : Aix en Provence
The Espace 361 ° is a gallery dedicated to contemporary art with exhibitions 2D / 3D, creative workshops and events.
As an association, the structure includes forty artists and craftspersons who share the place: painters, sculptors, photographers, ceramists, designers, textile or mosaic designers, illustrators, silk-screen printers... In practice, the formula appears interesting because in addition to being in direct contact with artists, visitors can also buy the works exhibited at the workshop prices.
At the initiative of the project, we find Liselotte Andersen, artist, former director of the International Language Institute of Aix-en-Provence who decided to devote himself to a career in art since 2008. Over time and exhibitions, this Franco-Danish has built an address book of artists she appreciates and to who she offered to be at the start of the collective group.
And that group is the strength of the project, making an interactive space, a living place where artists and craftsmen meet, where everyone comes out of his bubble to discover the techniques of the other, where new work arise from these exchanges. The sandstone oven installed in the basement, for members having the experience, represents a very good collaborative vector.
The living character of the place is also enhanced by the establishment of creative workshops, open to all and animated by the creative artists and craftsmen eager to share their passion and knowledge. Drawing, modeling, mosaic, screen printing, sewing, art therapy are some of the many activities offered throughout the week. During school holidays, sessions are also organized targeting adolescents with a different workshop each day.
Architecturally designed to be welcoming and flexible, the place also allows the organization of events such as readings, theater plays or concerts, all based on contemporary creation. A thread intended by Liselotte Andersen, a transversal approach, a willingness to move towards the abstract and the imagination, a vision to 361 ° which leaves opened our freedom of interpretation.
