Title in french : Jouques, un village préservé

Type : district

City : Jouques

Nestled in the hills, surrounded by vineyards and lavender fields and olive trees, Jouques has kept its traditional feel while developing a life of village very charming, rich in shops and restaurants.

The Grand prè at the center of the village is a symbol of resistance. Number of promoters or major retailers have sought to exploit this useless space. Useless? Not for those shepherds who twice a year to graze their sheep. Not for those riders who do the show in front of children.

This large meadow is the preservation of small businesses : bakeries, market, tobacco, flowers... No modern building that would spoil the landscape ... The river Real can continue to flow peacefully ...

What a joy to ride to the Church of Notre-Dame de la Roque (12th century) and enjoy a completely unspoilt view. In the footsteps of the pilgrims, gaze at the village as it stands for ages. Before, Romans and Gallics were living in various oppidums. There are 20 000 years, the cave of Adaouste already served as a habitat. Historically, men have always inhabited these places and we understand why ...

Located on the borders of the Bouches du Rhone, the limit of the Hautes Alpes and the Var, Jouques is located 300 meters above sea level, giving it a temperate climate and relatively humid conducive to the development of nature. The nights are always a bit cool, which certainly encouraged the bishops of Aix-en-Provence to install an archdiocese as a summer residence (17th century).

With Mount Concors (highest point of the village, 781m), the Vautubière and even the Sainte Victoire, the sector is an ideal playground for hikers, horseback or mountain bike, who in the month of July will have the chance to see the lavender fields in bloom.

You can also opt to visit the many excellent wineries in the region : Vignelaure, Revelette, The Réaltière, Saint Bacchi, Great Séouve, Villemus, Pigoudet or Mas Juliet.

Accommodation in guest rooms or cottages are numerous, either in the village center to enjoy its ancient streets, or on the Bèdes tray for a clear view of the hills.

Finally, the Peyrolles lake, climbing sites, proximity to Aix-en-Provence and the Verdon Gorge, give you many opportunities of visit on the day before returning to the village for a drink under the trees and a dinner under the stars.
