Title in french : L'Hôtel de ville, la tour de l'horloge et son marché aux fleurs
Type : monument
City : Aix en ProvenceThe place of the town hall is the center of the old town of Aix-en-Provence, a key crossing point where it is good to stop to buy some flowers and have a drink on the terraces.
Every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday for decades stands indeed the famous flower market. Depending on the season, you acquire beautiful bouquets, plants or herbs. Note also an antiquarian book fair on the first Sunday of each month
From an historical point of view, the clock tower, built on a white limestone bedrock dating from Roman times, is older than the city hall, which settled permanently on site in 1357. Its facade, inspired by Italian palaces, is the work of Pavillon, assisted by the sculptors Rambot and Fossé. Exceed the Gateways and their beautiful lion heads to appreciate the architecture of the inner square course.
After the visit, sit on the terrace for a certainly deserved break and take the pulse of the city in the shade of trees.
