The MUCEM impresses with its dark and massive aspect, but its near neighbour, the Villa Mediterranean, impresses with its light design and dazzling whiteness.
Like a spaceship, the building seems to defy the laws of attraction. This platform, 20 meters above the ground, is worth a visit to get a beautiful panoramic view and access to temporary exhibitions.
This, however, is only the tip of the iceberg because most of the Villa, and its greatest surprises, are located in the depths of its basement.
You will find a large space hosting a permanent exhibition called « Farther than the horizon ». With the themes of market and human mobility in the Mediterranean area, a set of works and multimedia documents will bring you from one side to the other, to show the human, social and economic realities that often come against each other.
The basement also houses a large amphitheatre that broadcasts concerts and give conferences on quite varied topics related to the Mediterranean.
