Maximum altitude : 946mThe « yellow trail » is a beautiful route, a quite technical one, which allows you to reach the peaks of the Sainte Victoire mountain by a path through the cliffs and gives a quick access to the priory and the Croix de Provence.
At first, a wide path leads you to the Cézanne refuge. There, is the real beginning of this yellow trail that winds along the south side to reach the top of Baou Cézanne, on the west ridge of the mountain.
A first technical passage appears rather fast, the « Pas de la savonnette » (Soap step), requiring to climb a ten metres high wall with a chain. This climb requires the strength of your arms and all your attention. The first two meters are the most delicate, then you will find many footholds. In case of difficulties, a yellow dotted route on the left allows you to bypass the obstacle.
Then comes a long walk eastward on a nice path, then you’ll have to go west where you will find a series of ridges with a few climbing passages, easy but involved.
For the way back, you can decide to follow the large red path, or continue with the route we'll show you on the map. After a few loops, this shortcut joins the bed of a small stream that you will follow unto the « Pas du Berger » (Shepherd step). Nothing very difficult for this pass as long as you let yourself slide cautiously on your buttocks.
The end of the trail leads to a small promontory used by paragliders and then follows the red trail again to the carpark.
This hike allows a nice loop on unfrequented paths, passing near the high cliffs suitable for climbing and you can enjoy various and even spectacular points of views on this incomparable massif.
